NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2000

CONTENTS:

Editorial -- "The Arrow of Vision"
the problem with ideals is that, although they at first foster the expansion of the field of awareness, in time they tend to become a constricting force mentally. The familiar progression of idea/ideal/idol betrays the facility with which a good idea can lapse into a constrictive mental barrier that walls out new recognitions of truth. This happens when the consciousness rests back, content with its present understanding in the assumption that it comprises the whole truth, when in fact it is only partial.

Ideals and Illusions -- Djwhal Khul

Values and Fallacies in Occultism -- Alice A. Bailey
True psychism is the demonstration of soul quality, the manifestation of the faculties of the spiritual man whilst in the physical body, and we need to look at no greater figure than the Christ of Galilee to see these psychic powers in their fullest and best manifestation.

Kangchenjunga and the Antahkarana -- A Student
Certainly for many Buddhists and Hindus alike, Kangchenjunga is a sacred temple. For me it now represents a link between the antahkarana and all humanity.

Unanimity and the Freedom of the Path -- Kathy Newburn
Once we move beyond the stage of our isolated, individual sense of self we can begin to enter into the state of true communion and brotherhood with others. We can know others as we know ourselves and work together towards a common goal.

Serenity--A Quality of the Soul -- Linda Spremulli
Peace becomes established as the crisis is successfully handled. Serenity, in contrast, is a state of deep calm that is devoid of emotional disturbance as the soul lies above the emotional plane. It is a state experienced by the disciple whose mind is held steady in the light of the soul.

Detachment -- Sheryl Levene
When we can "just turn our heads" in detachment, a powerful thing happens. Our heart can now hear the deep significance of the form. We see by the mind's eye the history of the situation or appearance and we adjust the forces we spend to help form advance towards its future beauty. The detached disciple creates because of his view into things and his vision for the future. Heart and mind sight allow him to work without contamination.

From Simplicity to Simplicity -- Kip Eddy
From the livingness of the will of the little atom that did to the synthesis of Shamballa, through the simplicity of the soul, and within the consciousness of every atom resides selfless power of simplification and love-our true reality and treasure. Although we are probably eons away from fully perceiving the where, when and why of it all, we may now more clearly understand how the kingdom of God is within us and how humanity will unerringly be trasnformed by the reneweing of its mind.

John Ruskin--A Forerunner -- Helen Durant
It is through forerunners such as John Ruskin that ideals and real social change are generated.
