THE DAWN OF A NEW CONSCIOUSNESS

It happens, almost without your knowing it: the rising sun. In the pale light of the early morning, before you’ve had a chance to notice, it happens: the new day is full of brilliant light. In those few moments of early dawn the earth turned, and your world is transformed from darkness to light. In one degree of earth-turn great changes take place. All up and down the hemisphere, like you, millions of people are suddenly motivated to get up and start a new day. It’s the "butterfly effect" in consciousness: small changes in the earth having widespread ramifications.

Asimilar effect can be seen when a person shifts his or her personality focus one degree inward towards the soul. That small turn of the personality life is sufficient to let a considerable amount of light into his or her consciousness. The light of the soul is illuminating and enables a person to see the world in a new way, with new eyes. This small expansion of awareness can produce a major change in the way one conducts one’s outer life. And one illuminating lifetime is all it takes to set the expansion process in motion. One lifetime is but a moment in the long history of the soul. But, as with the rising sun, great changes take place in that small turn of the personality life.

Spiritual initiatives, such as Triangles, are helping to deepen the rapport between the lighted and the material realms. This awakening of the individual personality life is not an isolated event; in fact it’s happening worldwide. Millions of people are becoming more sensitive to the soul’s light. And this illumination is creating, in many countries, revolutionary changes. It is the collective effect of millions of people turning towards the light that creates a critical mass of sufficient intensity to express a new quality in human consciousness. This has led, for example, to a tremendous worldwide growth in philanthropy, in service and aid agencies and in the founding of thousands of NGOs. This growth in the collective will to share resources and meet human need—a definite soul quality—is seen in the huge spontaneous worldwide outpouring of money and aid for the tsunami victims in the Indian Ocean countries. As consciousness turns inward—even by a small degree—the inpouring light sensitizes the heart into action. The ability to feel deep compassion is more widespread than we realise. It is evidence that the "mind that is in Christ" is emerging. Tremendous energies are released by the movement of the earth’s tectonic plates. Likewise, human energies are released when the crisis of death evokes the soul of the world. It happened before anyone could notice it: the earth moved, literally, and a new consciousness appeared on the horizon. Just by being who we really are—spontaneous, sharing souls—we are creating that pathway of light for the feet of the coming Christ.

THE SEVEN RAYS (Part 1)

In her 24 books of esoteric philosophy, Alice Bailey presented to the world a wealth of information concerning the seven Rays – a septenate of energies that impact at a universal, planetary, national, group, individual and subhuman level, and condition the evolution of consciousness.

Reference to these archetypal, yet dynamic cosmic energies has for countless aeons been veiled in symbolic language. For example, references to the "seven Spirits before the throne of God" can be found in the Bible and similarly in the writings of Plato. Understanding of these energy concepts has ever been known to those with eyes to see. Though, it has only been permissible, in the last one hundred years or so, for this knowledge to enter the public domain in such detail; and, only because humanity, the world disciple, has earned the right to enter more deeply into the arcana of wisdom, and therefore accept greater responsibility for its own destiny.

The seven rays have been depicted as universally demonstrating "the seven qualities of Deity". These primordial cosmic streams of pure energy emerge from sublime realms conditioning in their wake the myriad diversity of life to reveal the sacred within.

In considering the nature of the ray energies, we need to be ever mindful that their passage through form reveals both the highest and lowest aspects of human nature. It is all dependent upon where the indwelling consciousness is primarily focused. A particular ray energy will demonstrate different characteristics in a wise server of the race than someone who is entirely pre-occupied in the material world for his or her own self-gratification.

With these ideas in mind, this article, the first of two, touches upon Rays 1, 2, and 3, termed the Rays of Aspect, because of their prominence in the manifested life of Deity. In the next article to appear in the September Bulletin, Rays 4, 5, 6, and 7 will be discussed.

Ray 1 – Will or Power – has been described as ‘The Most High’. In human life it manifests as strength, courage and a power of ruling, and those in positions of power and of governance readily express this archetypal energy.

Ray 2 – Love-Wisdom – has been beautifully depicted as ‘The Lord of Eternal Love’. In the life of humanity it expresses itself as calmness, patience, love of truth and compassion. Many who are involved in teaching and healing are peculiarly attuned to this ray energy. The Christ, the world Teacher, is the outstanding example of second Ray impulse.

Ray 3 – Active Intelligence – is described as ‘The Universal Mind’. In human life this ray energy conveys sincerity of purpose, clear intellect, wide views on abstract questions and a capacity for concentration on philosophic studies. This triple energy stream echoes throughout many of the world’s religious faiths – in Christianity: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; in Hinduism: Shiva, Vishnu, and Brahma; in Judaism: Kether, Chokmah, and Binah; in the ancient Egyptian spiritual traditions: Ra, Osiris, and Horus; and in the Ageless Wisdom tradition: Life, Quality and Appearance or Will, Love and Light.

The interaction of these three divine creative Principles conditions the evolutionary process. Their interwoven, eternal dance ever brings about the right relationship of the form to the inner, spiritual pattern whether we consider the evolving life of a solar system, a planet or a human being. Perhaps, it was not a coincidence that the teachings on the Rays was presented to the world at a time when the science of psychology was in the ascendancy. The imparted ideas implicit in the Ray teaching offer a new, visionary approach to a study of human interaction, and our relationship with the spiritual and material realms.

We, too, recognise their importance in Triangles, as we work daily in groups of three to weave love and light into human consciousness, to serve the unfolding will and purpose of Deity.

THE ART OF VISUALISATION

Visualisation is a science based upon the spiritual law that energy follows thought. In our Triangles work it is a process in which the creative powers of the imagination, plus mental energy are used to bring light and goodwill into the world. What we think, our ideas, our thoughts and our imaginings have the potential to become a reality in the physical world whether they are images seen in the "mind’s eye" of the architect or garden designer or more abstract and intangible qualities sensed in meditation, qualities such as inclusiveness, compassion, or a sense of responsibility for one’s fellow human beings. The right use of mental energy is a form of service to humanity and, being a scientific technique, is not an emotional flight of fancy, so it requires study, investigation and practice in order to master the principles involved. Such effort is well worthwhile because visualisation then becomes a process whereby the mind reaches higher levels of awareness beyond its present range. In order to master this scientific technique we first of all have to try and come to an understanding of the nature of the emotions and also appreciate that the mind has its lower and higher aspects. It is inspiring to consider that the power to visualise correctly is a technique whereby we can discriminate between the unreal and the real, between external appearances and what is truly infused with impressions from the world of the intuition – that faculty which breaks through the glamour and illusion of the lower nature to reveal the light within all forms. The emotional or astral nature is simply a reflector of impressions and the objective of the Triangles worker is to train the emotional body to be still and clear as a mirror so that it will reflect that which is higher and not the fears, worries or desires of the lower nature. Emotional control develops through relaxation, concentration and stillness, which soothes the restless movement of the emotions, allowing positive and pure thought energies to flow through to the brain consciousness. By control and direction of the lower nature – the physical body, the emotions, and the concrete mind – we can shift our mental focus upwards towards higher abstract levels of mental awareness. The lower concrete mind ceases to be an analytical sieve through which more refined ideas are locked out and, through the gateway of the higher mind, a new world of intuitively perceived ideas opens up. Then intangible impressions such as a sense of universality, synthetic understanding and an identification with all beings flow into human consciousness.

When we visualise, we build a bridge in consciousness between the astral and mental planes. The creative imagination "pictures a form" through the ability to visualise and the thought energy of the mind gives life and direction to this form. With practice we can view "at will" pictures in the mind’s eye of lines of light and a global network of triangles. This is what might be called objective visualisation in three dimensions. Subjective visualisation is more difficult but is possible with practice. In the latter instance we move across the imaginary bridge we are creating in consciousness, at-one with all other subjective light workers, and sense those ideas which have a spiritual quality and a note of inclusiveness. In our Triangles work, we should be able to use both the objective and subjective types of visualisation where the network of triangles circulating the globe are visible as a grid yet are underpinned by an invisible energy circulation of light, love, and power. As it is above, so it is below, for just as the visionary thinker is surrounded by an invisible spiritual essence so is the planet when held in the higher minds of people of goodwill. Then the mental atmosphere of the planet is uplifted and purified and humanity moves towards fulfilling its destiny as the planetary light-bearer.

SACRED GEOMETRY

It is said that "God geometrises", and so the outer form of existence must reflect in some way this profound truth. In imitation of God, Humanity has, down the ages, sought to create geometric form in its buildings. The architects of such sacred buildings as Chartres cathedral or the Parthenon went to extraordinary lengths to ensure there was right, balanced proportion in their work. Profound yet simple mathematical ratios governed the relative lengths of lines and the angles between them. As a result, we find these buildings beautiful – a beauty born not just from ornament, but from exacting measurement. The aesthetic response is to the deeper, underlying geometry – a geometry that expresses spiritual truths in a language beyond words. Interestingly, the late Dutch architect Ton Alberts suggested that every angle has its own angel, its own presiding energy, and that an excessive reliance on the right angle of 90 degrees in buildings is unhealthy. When we note that the task of humanity is to resolve the planetary etheric network from squares, with four equal angles of 90 degrees, to triangles, which in their equilateral form have three equal angles of 60 degrees, we can see that humanity must learn how to geometrise.

The philosopher, Plato, believed that mathematics, including geometry, was a key requirement of education, and he has given his name to the Platonic solids, which are crystallisations of eternal geometric truth. The cube, composed of squares, is indeed one of these solids – but only one of the five, and the only one to feature right angles. The other solids are composed in three cases of equilateral triangles, and in one case of pentagons. The pentagon implies the pentagram, sometimes called the star of man, which resonates with the mathematical ratio known as phi, or the golden ratio, a number linked to the structure of spiral shells and other forms of natural growth. The hexagram, the "star of David", consists of two interlaced equilateral triangles, and is closely connected with the angelic or deva evolution.

It is said that it is the task on the sacred planets to transform the etheric network from triangles to interlinked rings – perhaps this symbolises the fusion of all angles and energies. However, the Earth is not yet sacred, and we must first make the transition from the rule of the square to the law of the triangle.

The geometry of a building defines the kinds of sounds which will resonate there most clearly. We may guess that sacred geometric ratios and angles are most conducive to the correct sounding of sacred tones, including the all-encompassing OM. So the transformation of the etheric body of the planet to its correct geometry heralds the creation of a resonant temple to the greater glory of God in the wider universe, connecting the Earth to the music of the spheres and the cosmos.

Triangles is a world service activity in which people link in thought in groups of three to create a planetary network of triangles of light and goodwill. Using a world prayer, the Great Invocation, they invoke light and love as a service to humanity. Further information is available on request from Triangles. The Triangles Bulletin is for men and women of goodwill and is published four times a year in Danish, Dutch, English, French, German, Greek, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and Swedish. Triangles is an activity of the Lucis Trust, a non-profit educational charity which exists to promote right human relations.
